Dominic Gomez and his family's lives changed forever this week. On Monday evening Dominic was attending the academy to become a San Joaquin Sheriff, it was the end of the day and they were doing a mile-and-a-half run. He started not to feel well and soon the ambulance had to be called for him. Once in the hospital, they found he had a high fever and was not breathing well. He had to be intubated and the doctors worked hard to find the root of the problem. They discovered that because of overexertion and heat stroke Dominic developed a rare condition called Rhabdomyolysis which is a condition where your muscles begin to break down and create toxins in your body and in Dominic's Severe case shut down his major organs including his liver and kidneys. His symptoms were so severe that Tuesday night he had to be airlifted to UCSF for further treatment where he is currently waiting on a liver transplant. He is still intubated and receiving dialysis treatment. This is the beginning of Dominic's fight. His family has not left his side since they got the call to come to the hospital on Monday evening. We appreciate everyone's continued prayers, we have had many reach out and ask what they can do for Dominic. His family has come together and decided that this is best for Dominic because he has a long road ahead and having some financial reassurance will take some stress off of Dominic and give one less thing to worry about down the road. Many have asked to come visit him in the hospital, while this would be amazing the doctors have decided that no one but immediate family can visit at this time, they want to keep him as healthy as possible to keep him in the window of available transplant. We ask that you continue to keep him in your prayers.
