Derek was diagnosed with sarcoma cancer two and a half years ago, where they removed a 20-pound tumor from his abdomen. He lost one of his kidneys and part of his colon as a result. He then underwent AIM chemotherapy and was told he was cancer-free! However, in September, Derek was experiencing pain where the tumor used to be and left work to go to the ER, where they told him, his wife, and son that his cancer was back. He has three tumors: one large tumor (about the size of a grapefruit) where the original tumor was that is surrounding his stomach, one on his colon, and another on his pancreas. The doctors called it "seeding" because these were areas where the previous tumor had touched. In the coming months, Derek will undergo chemotherapy and radiation to hopefully shrink the tumors. Then, hopefully, they will attempt to remove them. They told him if they tried to do surgery now that they would have to remove a large portion of his colon, most of his stomach, and part or all of his pancreas.
He has been out of work, unpaid for almost a month now because he is in pain daily and on morphine. Derek is a devoted father and husband, one of the best friends a person can have. Let's all pull together to help Derek during his time of need.
