My 17-year-old niece, Denise, was the victim of a horrifying, coordinated group assault involving nearly 30 individuals — some of them adults.

She tried to walk away. She tried to protect herself. But she was repeatedly cornered, overwhelmed, and physically attacked. Her personal belongings were stolen. She suffered serious injuries to her face and body.

Even worse, the assault was filmed and shared online. Now, false rumors are circulating to justify what happened. Let me be clear:
