My name is Dan and I am raising money to support my mother with terminal cancer. I live in Europe, on a relatively small European salary, but my mother is in the United States. She does not have savings or health insurance (too young for Medicare still) and her expenses are adding up while she is in hospice.
My mom Debbie is a wonderful person who deserves to have comfort at the end of her life. She has worked her whole life as a retail optician, which sadly in the United States does not typically include benefits like health insurance or retirement plans. She has spent the last 20 years caring for my father with multiple sclerosis in addition to her work. She was diagnosed in January of 2026 with an endocrineal instestinal cancer, stage 4, and has been in hospice care since not recovering from the initial surgery to remove a large tumor. Her family has been there to support her in this difficult time, but they are already financially strained after the recent deaths of my grandmother and my uncle, and my dad going to live in assisted living.
I love my mom, and normally I detest asking for help, but we have nowhere else to turn. She deserves better than the system she has been born into and lived in her whole life. I'd bring her to Europe for a better standard of living, but she is committed to staying with the rest of her family until the end. Anything you can offer in this time will help her do that with comfort and dignity.
