A Fight for Workplace Equality and Justice
My name is Daniel, and I am an outreach worker/medical assistant in a NON PROFIT dedicated to helping vulnerable people in our community. I am also a neurodivergent individual diagnosed with ADD and other mental health conditions. My work is my passion, but recently, a difficult situation at my workplace has put my livelihood and my ability to provide for my family at risk. I am seeking support to cover essential living expenses and potential legal fees while I address a wrongful unpaid leave.
Over the past few months, I began experiencing challenges at work directly related to my disability. I followed company protocol by requesting accommodations from HR and providing a note from my psychiatrist to support my needs, which included more detailed documentation and alternative communication methods. My requests were unfortunately denied, and instead, I was placed on leave to "get better."
After attending intensive cognitive therapy, I returned to work prepared to resume my duties, but there were no accommodations or plans for my return. I restarted the accommodation process, hoping to find a solution. Around the same time, a new coworker who is also on the spectrum began facing the same challenges and lack of support. She also went to HR to advocate for herself. Shortly after, we were both placed on a second, unpaid leave.
This situation has created a significant financial hardship for me as a single father with shared custody of my child. With my income cut off, I am struggling to cover basic living expenses like rent, utilities, and groceries. I also face potential legal fees as I pursue a claim for the wrongful actions taken against me.
Your donation would directly help me cover my living expenses and any unforeseen legal costs during this time. Beyond my own situation, I am committed to using this experience to advocate for neurodivergent individuals in the workplace. Everyone deserves to be treated with respect, to receive proper training, and to be given an equal opportunity to succeed.
Thank you for your support and for helping me fight for a more just and inclusive workplace for all.
