I am making this on behalf of one of my best friends, Kim and her wonderful son Codin. Codin is 4 years old, and is currently inpatient at Riley's Children Hospital. He has Cerebral X-linked adrenoleukodystrophy (CALD) is a severe, rapidly progressive genetic brain disease that mostly affects young boys. It destroys the protective myelin sheath around nerve cells in the central nervous system.
Codin has required an MRI every 6 months since he was born to track any changes in his brain. In February of this year, his MRI showed a lesion in his brain. They continued to monitor with MRIs every month and determined the lesion was progressing. This determined the disease was cerebral and would be terminal without medical intervention.
The only treatment for this is a Stem Cell Transplant. He was admitted to the oncology ward at Riley's Children's hospital over the summer and completed his Stem Cell Transplant in August. He is currently still inpatient at Riley's Children hospital with his mom Kim, and could be discharged in November of this year.
Following his discharge from the hospital, Codin and Kim will have to quarantine for a full year. Kim will be unable to work during this time due to the restrictions on Codin's quarantine while his immune system is rebuilding. We are asking for donations to help cover bills and daily living expenses while they are under quarantine.
Thank you to everyone for their time and consideration!
