Hi everyone,

My name is Nicole Mayer, and I’m organizing this fundraiser for Coach Cass Bell: A devoted father of two, longtime youth coach, and a pillar of the Humboldt County community.

For over a decade, Cass has poured his heart into helping others. He has coached at Arcata High School, volunteered countless hours with Arcata Youth Wrestling, and built safe, welcoming spaces through the Institute of Combat (IOC) and 21 Grams Gym. Through these programs, he’s mentored hundreds of kids and adults — teaching not just wrestling and fitness, but confidence, discipline, accountability, and perseverance.

Cass’s impact goes far beyond the mat. He’s known for stepping up when others need help. Over the years, he has assisted in emergency situations, helped people involved in serious accidents, and acted selflessly to protect others. In 2021, he made local headlines after helping rescue a young girl trapped in a truck in Eureka, staying by her side until emergency responders arrived. That same year, Cass and his IOC students provided aid to a man who collapsed on the beach until paramedics took over.

Anyone who truly knows Cass knows this about him: if a child is in need of help whether they are his student, a stranger, or someone with nowhere else to turn. He steps in without hesitation. He has never asked where a child comes from or what they can give in return. If someone needs support, guidance, or protection, Cass has always believed it’s his responsibility to help.

Now, Cass needs help.

After more than 11 years in the same building, Cass was forced to relocate his entire gym. A massive and expensive undertaking. At the same time, he faced unexpected legal and personal expenses that completely drained his savings. He has done everything possible to stay afloat: borrowing from family and friends, taking on extra work, and cutting back wherever possible.

Recently, the District Attorney reviewed the facts and formally rejected the case.

While this brought clarity, the financial impact of the process remains.

Those who know Cass know he rarely asks for help. He’s the one who shows up for others. Our kids, our families, and our community. This fundraiser exists to help stabilize him during this rebuilding period.

Funds raised will help cover:

Essential living expenses (rent, groceries, utilities, transportation)

Outstanding legal and investigative costs

Critical gym and program needs to keep youth training and mentorship programs alive
