Help us FREE José from ICE detention! Here’s the quick story: José & Cati, a young couple in their early 20s, left family and friends and everything they knew in Venezuela and came to the U.S. Why? Like others, to flee the poverty, corruption, crime, and joblessness in that country. They arrived in DC, rented an apartment, and started working various jobs: drywall, painting, babysitting, house cleaning. This kind, gentle young couple had the dream we all have: to build a happy, productive life where they can feel a sense of belonging and contribute to the society that gave them a chance. They so badly want to become Americans! José is a fine young man. He’s friendly, good-natured, smiles easily, works hard, and helps others any way he can. He is a positive, loving human being who gives back way more than he receives. They came from Venezuela under the temporary protection order. In early January, he reported to the local ICE office for a scheduled meeting for the program. However, given the sudden policy changes under Trump revoking the temporary protection, much to his and Cati’s horror, ICE very unexpectedly detained him and sent him to a holding facility hours away in rural Virginia. After several weeks in the dingy facility, scared and ill, he saw a judge. The judge is allowing him to go free with a deposit of $10,000, despite the fact he has committed no crimes! Can you believe this? “Welcome to America!” We’re BETTER THAN THIS, friends & family! Cati and friends have scraped together $3,000 on very tight budgets. Cati is pleading for help for the rest to get him out, back home, and back to work and pursuing their new life in America! Please help free him with any size donation. It all adds up to FREEDOM for José!
