As the word has spread of Bryan’s cancer diagnosis, many have asked if there is anything they can do to help. Due to the financial strain of cancer treatment, we have decided to create a GoFundMe to ask for help.

As many of you may know, last October our world turned upside down when Bryan, or Willis/Willie as some of you might know him, was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. Prior to his diagnosis, Bryan had been struggling with ongoing stomach issues, and it wasn’t until the tests were conducted that we discovered the 3cm tumor on the head of his pancreas.

We are grateful that the cancer was caught early, and despite the challenges, we were able to start chemotherapy right away. Bryan has recently completed his nine courses of chemotherapy at Providence Cancer Center in Portland.

We held our breath as we awaited the follow-up CT scan. The news was a relief: the tumor shrank to 2cm. However, it still touches his hepatic artery, so the surgeon will not perform surgery until it clears the artery. To encourage this progress, we have decided to pursue radiation therapy. We met with the radiation oncologist last week and have devised a treatment plan, which will commence in a couple of weeks.

We remain hopeful that radiation will help shrink the tumor enough for surgery, which is tentatively scheduled for May.

Bryan was initially hesitant to share this journey with everyone. He feared the reactions of others—how pity might change the way people treated him. It has been a heavy burden to carry, but he feels that now is the right time to go public with our news. Social media seems to be the most effective way to keep our friends and loved ones updated on his progress.
