Stand with Bruce: End Animal Neglect & Cruelty

Donation protected
This is Bruce - my first foster pup that I thought was successfully rehomed, only to get the unimaginable nightmare of a phone call 3.5 years later. Bruce was picked up by animal control and luckily my name was still attached to his microchip (the new owner would never respond to me to change the info to his). What they could legally tell me at the time was that Bruce was alert, uninjured but severely underweight. Five days later, after the stray hold, I drove 2.5 hours away to get him out of there. You could expect that what he looked like on their website for his intake picture was not nearly as bad as what he looked like in person. He previously weighed 81 lbs before leaving me in January 2022. He weighed in today at 46 lbs.

Bruce had a vet visit today - which went surprisingly well giving the condition he was in. Bruce is obviously very underweight and malnourished. He has an ear infection, his nails were overgrown with a couple that were broken. His paw pads are healing from open sores/ulcerations. He has absolutely zero muscle mass and you can see every bone structure throughout his body. Gratefully his bloodwork results from animal control looked relatively okay, as well as him being Heartworm and Lyme negative.

Bruce is currently being housed at Stoney Run Canine Camp and will get basic training when he starts gaining weight and his anxiety subsides. They are providing this for free for me - I honestly couldn’t be more grateful.

I’m never one to ask for any help, but these costs out of pocket are so unexpected and this individual (his previous owner) needs to be held liable. I have already made a police report for a civil matter but this needs to be pushed further to get justice for what Bruce has endured.

This gofundme was set up in recommendation from close friends and coworkers to help cover Bruce’s medical bills, everyday needs - prescription digestive care food, anxiety medications, preventions, & attorney fees to be able to move forward in pressing charges for animal cruelty/neglect. This also comes with the travel, gas and loss of work during potential court dates.

Anything and everything can help. I appreciate it if you’ve made it this far.

Pray for Bruce and his long journey of getting back to good health. All I care is that he is safe now!
