Stand with Brian: Overcome Cancer's Challenges

Donation protected
Hello, I'm Cara Anderson, raising money for Brian's Battle with Aggressive Cancer. In August 2023, what was thought to be a simple cyst in Brian's armpit turned into a devastating diagnosis: Squamous Cell Carcinoma, an aggressive form of skin cancer, in a highly unusual and unexpected location. The area had an open wound, and the doctors had to delay treatment until it healed enough for them to proceed. By November 2023, Brian underwent surgery to remove the tumor. Tragically, in that short time, a new tumor had already grown, filling the surgical cavity. The cancer was advancing rapidly. In December, Brian began an intense treatment regimen: chemotherapy once a week and radiation five days a week for 33 the maximum amount allowed in one area. During this time, Brian developed lymphedema and lost full use of his right arm and hand. In January 2024, after enduring months of treatments, a new tumor appeared. His case was then referred to UT Southwest in Dallas, hoping for more advanced options, but before Brian could even make it to his first appointment, his health took a critical turn. In September 2024, he was rushed to the emergency room. Doctors discovered three holes in his colon, there are liters of toxic fluid in his abdomen, and he had to undergo emergency surgery. These included parts of colon to be removed and the placement of a colostomy bag. During that surgery, Brian's heart stopped three times- but by the grace of God and skilled medical professionals, he pulled through. Doctors were amazed at his strength.
Brian spent over 5 weeks in the hospital, followed by 25 days in a nursing and rehab facility. Coming home was a blessing, but recovery has been far from easy. Brian is still fighting confusion due to sepsis, ICU delirium, and the heavy toll of months of medication and procedures. His wife, Lori, has been his rock, caring not only for Brian but also for her 87-year-old mother around the clock. Lori hasn't been able to work, as she now manages Brian's wound care, colostomy maintenance, and overall well-being. She has been hospitalized during this time and faces surgery soon. The good news: The most recent treatments are working. Tumors are shrinking, and doctors are planning surgery to repair Brian's armpit wound and potentially reverse the colostomy. But Brian and Lori urgently need help- financially and spiritually. Any donation, no matter how small, would go a long way toward helping with their mounting medical expenses and daily needs. If you're unable to donate, please share their story and lift them in your prayers. Brian has spent many years working hard in the oilfield, helping others. Now it's our turn to help him. Thank you for your kindness, support, and prayers.
