Be Part of Brian’s Road to Recovery

Update:
Dear friends, family, and faithful supporters,

Over the past six months, your prayers, generosity, and encouragement have carried our family through one of the most challenging seasons of our lives. Because of your kindness, Brian was able to receive the care, medical supplies, and nutrition he needed while living without insurance. You have truly been the hands and feet of Jesus—meeting real needs and reminding us that we were never alone.

We are overjoyed to share some wonderful news: Brian now has medical insurance! This is an incredible answer to prayer and will help ease the ongoing costs of his treatments, medications, and specialist visits.

With this blessing in place, we will be closing this fundraiser. Every dollar you gave made a direct impact—covering hospital stays, specialist visits, feeding supplies, and daily essentials that kept Brian stable and moving toward recovery.

From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for standing with us when we needed it most. Your compassion, faith, and love have been a powerful reminder of God’s faithfulness and goodness.

As Brian continues on his road to full recovery, please keep him in your prayers. We are deeply grateful for every prayer, every message, and every act of love that carried us through this season with hope.

“The Lord has done great things for us, and we are filled with joy.”
— Psalm 126:3

With love and gratitude,
The Mejias Family

Original Story:
The Mejias family has faithfully served their church and touched countless lives with their kindness, generosity, and faith. Now, they’re facing a crisis of their own—and we have the opportunity to come alongside them in love and support.

Their son, Brian, is a well-rounded and goal-oriented young man with a bright future ahead. Before this medical crisis began, he was pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Religion at Liberty University Online, preparing for a life of ministry and service.

But in mid-May, his health took a serious and unexpected turn. What began as a visit to the emergency room on May 14 quickly escalated into a 20-day hospital stay. Brian had lost the ability to swallow due to esophageal motility issues. For 16 days, he couldn’t eat. After several procedures and failed attempts with different nutritional formulas, he was ultimately given a feeding tube.

He was discharged on June 2, but complications soon followed. On June 18, he was readmitted for 13 days due to an infection caused by slowed stomach motility. During that second stay, his body’s ability to absorb nutrients declined significantly—he was only able to receive about 50% of his nutritional needs through the feeding tube. He now depends on 20-hour continuous feeding each day. Though he was discharged again on July 1 and is back home, his journey is far from over.

And yet, in the midst of all this, Brian’s faith has not wavered. He continues to pray with his doctors and nurses, encourage those around him, and share the hope he has in Christ. His strength, humility, and deep desire to serve—despite everything—have made him a light to everyone who meets him. He truly is an inspiration.

Why We’re Raising Support
Brian’s care now involves frequent visits with specialists, ongoing lab testing, prescription medications, and specialized nutrition—all of which are essential for his health and survival. Unfortunately, he currently does not have insurance, and the financial burden on the Mejias family has become overwhelming.

Bills Owed (One-Time) (as of 7/5/2025)
  • Gastroenterologist: $9,095
  • Surgeon: $4,045
  • Pending Bill for July 1st G-tube change and abdominal scan
→ Current Total Due: $13,140.00+ (plus pending charges)
(*Does not include prior hospital bills)

Monthly & Recurring Expenses
  • Feeding Machine with Supplies: $708.10
  • Medical Formula: $780.00
  • Medicines: $1,700.00
  • Doctors/Specialists: $1,000
  • Labs and Testing: $2,000
→ Approximate Monthly Total: $6,188.10
(*Some items vary slightly month to month)

These are not optional—they’re the essentials keeping Brian stable day to day.

To help relieve this burden, our goal is to raise $38,000 to support the Mejias family for the next four months. This would allow them to cover both ongoing care and some of the urgent one-time medical bills as they navigate this critical season.

“So then, as we have opportunity, let us do good to everyone, and especially to those who are of the household of faith.”
– Galatians 6:10
