Stand with Beth: Provide Meals for 100 Kids

Donation protected
Facebook and IRL friends,

In the wake of the USAID disarray, I am hoping to help my friend Beth Wawira develop a “safety fund” that will feed a huge increase in children who are now hungry in her part of Kenya. Any amount would be appreciated, but a minimum of $25.00 would help me to raise enough quickly so she will get this money by the end of the month.

Beth normally has 19 full time resident children in her home, and 21 community children who are fed at her home each day but frequently return to relatives who need assistance with feeding them. Do the math: this is 40 children.

As of March 1, 2025, Beth is feeding close to 100 children a day. Her non-resident children who eat one meal a day with her has tripled due to the USAID fallout. I know this because I am on a Facebook page set up for her by a group of private British donors who are also providing assistance to her.

I have no political opinion on what happened with USAID either way. I understand the Republican concern about corruption within USAID, which precipitated the shutdown. I also understand the Democrat concern about worldwide healthcare disruptions that affect people like Beth and the work she does with Kenya’s neediest kids. My personal feeling is that Africa must become sustainable on its own, without government assistance. The Chinese could donate to Africa, given the amount they have reaped from the continent in the last four decades, but they don’t.

Thus, I don’t want to get into the politics behind the disruption; I simply want to do right by someone I have worked with in the past who is doing amazing sustainable development as her life’s passion. Many of you contributed to her life-saving tonsillectomy surgery a few years ago – I hope you will share the joy in her recovery and the pride in her continued ability to run a group home/orphanage for the most vulnerable children in Limuru.

FINAL NOTE: If you contributed to her lifesaving surgery, I can’t thank you enough. Look at what she is doing for her community now. If this is your first contribution, I feel confident that this lady is worthy of your assistance.
