Help Amy Fight Thyroid Cancer and Support Her Family
Hi, my name is Amy Schultz, and I’m reaching out with a hopeful heart during one of the most difficult times in my life.
On December 20th, 2024, I was diagnosed with Papillary Thyroid Cancer — completely out of the blue. Just weeks later, on January 6th, 2025, I underwent a complete thyroidectomy, partial parathyroid removal, and the removal of 29 lymph nodes — 18 of which tested positive for cancer. The cancer had already spread beyond my thyroid, damaging a nearby nodule and leaving me with a paralyzed left vocal cord.
In February, I also underwent internal radiation treatment (RAI) to target any remaining cancer cells. While necessary, the side effects and healing process have been incredibly difficult.
Physically, I’m dealing with:
Painful hoarseness and difficulty speaking
Choking while eating or drinking
Difficulty breathing
A large incision stretching from one side of my neck to the other, and up behind my right ear
Emotionally and financially, this diagnosis has flipped our lives upside down.
I’m a wife and a proud mom of four children. We fostered 11 children over 7 years. We have always had a strong faith in God and have carried that with us through this season. Until this diagnosis, I worked full-time as a telephone triage nurse — a role I loved deeply. I had just started a new job and was only 45 days in when I was diagnosed. Because of that, I didn’t qualify for benefits like FMLA or short-term disability, and I’ve been without any income since going on medical leave.
Despite not receiving a paycheck, I’m still responsible for paying my portion of my medical insurance — which covers both me and my family. I’ve exhausted every resource available, and we’re now in a very vulnerable place financially.
As the primary provider for our household, the pressure and stress of trying to heal while staying afloat is immense.
What Your Support Will Help With:
Ongoing medical bills and treatment costs
Basic living expenses (rent, utilities, groceries, transportation)
Out-of-pocket premiums to keep my medical coverage active
Recovery support for breathing and vocal care
This isn’t easy for me to ask, but any donation — big or small — would mean the world to me and my family. If you're not able to give, please consider sharing this page to help us reach others who might be able to help.
From the bottom of my heart, thank you for reading, for caring, and for standing with us during this incredibly hard season.
With love and deep gratitude,
Amy Schultz
