Stand with Amanda in Her Time of Need

Hi. I'm Donna J. W. Munro, a writer and teacher. I met Amanda Worthington when she started a midwestern chapter of HWA, a writer's group I belong to. As we got to know each other, I realized that Amanda is going through the worst kind of life crisis cascade in her life.

She's trying to survive and is a month from homelessness.

While she is usually the one helping others, Amanda is now the one in need of a little help.

About a year and a half ago, she very suddenly lost her home after a break-up. She worked hard to restabilize, found an apartment willing to work with her credit, slowly rebuilt her life. She eventually moved into a better, safer apartment, but was blindsided when she was laid off from her publishing job. While she has been working diligently to find another opportunity, she has struggled on this front. She has survived by fulfilling Instacart and Doordash orders and by accepting help from a partner. She was forced to cut ties with the man in question due to his manipulative and abusive behavior and is finding it difficult to do more than fill her gas tank with the money she is able to make through gig work.

Two retail locations verbally hired Amanda on, but she has yet to be scheduled despite many attempts on her part to contact management.

Amanda was recently informed that eviction proceedings will be initiated immediately unless she can pay the rent she owes, which she cannot. This news come a mere week before she is slated to interview for a professional role as an academic librarian and two weeks before she begins a certificate program to become a paralegal.

Amanda is driven, determined, and resilient. She also understands that we all need a little help sometimes and is hopeful that her community can provide some much-needed relief in this trying time.
