Hello my name is Julia and I am reaching out on the behalf of our older sister, Alexis Black, received devastating news on July 9th: she has been diagnosed with stage 3b Triple Negative Breast Cancer, which has spread to her lymph nodes. The best treatment plan involves six months of chemotherapy and immunotherapy. Genetic testing revealed that Alexis is positive for the BRCA1 gene, meaning a double mastectomy is recommended, with a possible lumpectomy depending on her scan results after treatment.
Alexis has been undergoing weekly treatments at Roswell and is now almost halfway through! These treatments have made it challenging for her to keep up with her daily routines and work full time. After sharing her diagnosis with her employer, Alexis was demoted twice and, more recently, encouraged to take unpaid medical leave due to her inability to work full time. Unfortunately, she does not qualify for FMLA, as she had only recently started this job before learning of her diagnosis.
Anyone who knows Alexis knows she’s a strong, independent person who rarely asks for help. Our family has been supporting her as best we can, but none of us were prepared for the financial strain of this journey. With the loss of income and mounting medical expenses, Alexis is struggling to stay positive under the weight of these worries. My family and I are reaching out on her behalf, asking for your support. Any donation, no matter the size, makes a difference in helping Alexis stay strong, positive, and focused on overcoming this diagnosis.
Let’s unite in supporting Alexis as she battles breast cancer, offering her hope and strength on her path to recovery. As Alexis herself says, this is not the end of her story.
