My name is David Spitzer. I’m a former detective with the San Diego Police Department, 1990-2018. For years, I worked with Detective Greg Haisan. We both worked a variety of assignments together and raised our families in the San Diego/Escondido area. I know and love Greg’s family very much. One of Greg’s daughters, Alexa Haisan, is having some serious medical issues. I’m trying to help Greg’s family as much as I can. Alexa’s medical treatment will keep her from working for long periods which is causing a financial hardship. Greg is an extremely private person and is not one to usually ask for help. He’s doing all he can. He even took a job with the local hockey team, the San Diego Gulls, to make more money. I can see Alexa’s medical situation is too much for the family to handle alone. On behalf of the Haisan family, I started this GoFundMe page.

Alexa’s story: Alexa has spent years courageously battling multiple autoimmune diseases, including rheumatoid arthritis and ulcerative colitis, while continuing to work and live her life with remarkable strength.

Recently, at only 33 years old, she received the devastating diagnosis of stage IV metastatic melanoma. The cancer has spread to several areas of her body, including her spine, where a large tumor required surgery and continues to cause severe, debilitating pain. Alexa is now beginning immunotherapy while also traveling for specialized care and a second opinion at Mayo Clinic. Her illness, recovery from surgery, ongoing treatments, frequent appointments, and travel have made it impossible for her—and often her family caregivers—to maintain normal work schedules. The community is coming together to help ease the financial burden of lost wages, medical-related travel, lodging, and other expenses so Alexa and her family can focus their energy where it is needed most: on her treatment, comfort, and healing.

Any contribution, prayer, or sharing of her story is deeply appreciated by the entire family.
