Stand with Alex Against Unjust Charges

On Thursday September 18 my husband, Alex, was on his way to work sitting quietly on the metro north train when a fellow passenger accused him of sitting disrespectfully and made racially charged comments. An MTA Conductor then called the police on him. the officers boarded the train, accused him of disturbing the peace, handcuffed him, dragged him off the train, questioned him on the platform, and unjustly searched his belongings.

Alex is now being accused of disorderly conduct and he needs legal representation as soon as possible. We found a firm willing to take his case but we can only afford a fraction of their fees right now. This experience has been confusing, painful and traumatizing for our family. Just days before this horrible incident, Alex and I got married at a beautiful ceremony with our friends and family. The last thing we ever expected was for Alex to be racially profiled on his regular commute to work and end up in handcuffs so tight they left marks on his wrist.

As his wife, all I ever want is to protect my husband and care for our family. I was heartbroken and confused at how someone could see my husband sitting on a train on his way to work and see that as justification to call the police to have him arrested.

My husband, who is Black, deserves so much better–all Black people do. We won’t let this unjust system win. We want to make sure this NEVER happens again, to Alex or to anyone else. In order to do that, we need your help.

Alex deserves the best legal representation, people who will fight tooth and nail to clear his charge. We’ve secured a firm who will take Alex’s case but we need your help to raise the funds for paying their fees.
