Hello everyone,

My name is Balvinder Singh Grewal. I am 31 years old and work as a truck driver based in Melbourne. I am reaching out today because I am going through one of the most difficult times of my life and I truly need support from the community.

On 20 March 2026, while driving back from Sydney to Melbourne, I was involved in a serious accident near Marulan on the southbound highway at around 6:57–7:00 pm. It was sunset and the sun glare was very strong, making visibility difficult for drivers.

A car travelling in front of me suddenly slammed on the brakes. As I was driving a heavy truck, I was unable to stop in time and my truck collided with the car. The vehicle had four people inside. Tragically, one person lost their life at the scene, two people were airlifted to hospital, and another person was injured.

This incident has completely devastated me. Losing a life in such a situation is something I will carry with me forever, and my heart goes out to the family affected.

After the accident, police arrested me and charged me with dangerous driving, although I believe the situation was beyond my control. I have two witnesses who saw what happened and can confirm the circumstances.

I am currently on bail and preparing to go to court so I can explain my side of the story. To do this properly, I need legal representation, but lawyer fees are extremely high, and I simply cannot afford them on my own.

I am a married man and a father to a beautiful 6-month-old daughter who depends on me. Since the accident, I have been deeply traumatised and struggling emotionally. I am even scared to drive a truck again because of what happened.

I am asking for help from the trucking community and anyone willing to support. As drivers, we all know how dangerous highways can be and how quickly things can happen when someone brakes suddenly in front of a heavy vehicle.
