My name is Adi Barukh-Hirth and I have been a Jewish preschool teacher for over 10 years. I have a BA in Early Childhood Education and a MA in Special Education.
In 2015, the world watched as Israel launched Operation Protective Edge to stop rocket fire from Gaza. My bittersweet, humbling summer experience in Israel during OPE enveloped me with an overwhelming feeling of pride and desire to give back. As a NYC private school teacher, I undertook a pen-pal letter & video correspondence curriculum in which NYC Jewish children corresponded with the children in the south of Israel, Sderot. In addition to establishing this community-building project, I undertook a mitzvah mission to help rebuild a playground in Sderot that was in dire need of reconstruction. This opportunity to give back for our country was a humbling and tremendous success!! By the end of the school year, our community exceeded our fundraising goal to rebuild a playground for the children of Sderot. It was a beautiful and touching accomplishment for all donars and contributors who partook in this cause.

We look forward to continuing our chessed mission for the love of our motherland - ISRAEL!
Reut-Sderot association is a non-profit organization that provides educational, social advancement, and leadership programs for the economically disadvantaged community of Sderot. To achieve these goals the association runs more than 15 projects and programs for at-risk populations and for the city's residents in general.
Sderot is a town in the Southern District of Israel, located less than a mile from Gaza. The city has been an ongoing target of Qassam rocket attacks from the Gaza Strip since 2001. Rocket attacks on the city have killed many Israelis, wounded dozens, caused millions of dollars in damage and profoundly disrupted daily life. Studies have found that air raid sirens and explosions have caused severe psychological trauma among the residents. Popular for having numerous Bomb shelters, some of which are built in the form of Children's Play areas in school playgrounds, Sderot is infamously referred to as The "Bomb Shelter Capital of the World."
This year the Reut-Sderot association has a project to help 56 at risk children suffering from PTSD, most of whom come from families that are disadvantaged and impoverished. These children need extra help and we wish to provide them with special therapies during the year that have been proven effective: zootherapy, equine therapy, music therapy, occupational therapy, and a special class in dog training. Studies have shown that this program serves as a significant resource for improving the children's academic and emotional progress.

The cost for this program is $34,652 per year. $21,000 has been generously donated.
Please join the cause and help raise the remaining $13,652 for our children of Israel!
