Stand Up for Respect in Rideau Lakes – Support Mayor Hoogenboom and Councillors Maxwell & Pollard

My name is Kim Papadoliopoulos. I’m a Rideau Lakes taxpayer and the daughter of Councillor Marcia Maxwell. I created this fundraiser to support my mom, along with Mayor Arie Hoogenboom and Councillor Ron Pollard.

Over the past several years, the atmosphere at the Rideau Lakes council table has deteriorated significantly. In October 2025, concerns from residents became so serious that the Province appointed a monitor to observe council meetings and report to the Minister.

Unfortunately, despite this intervention, the personal attacks and defamatory behaviour from five fellow councillors have continued.

In December, the Mayor and Councillors Maxwell and Pollard took action by hiring a lawyer using their own personal funds. They issued cease-and-desist letters in hopes of stopping the attacks and restoring a respectful working environment so council could focus on serving the community.

Those letters were ignored. In fact, the attacks have continued.

They now have no choice but to pursue legal action to protect their reputations and uphold the dignity of public office. Importantly, this legal action targets the individual conduct of those involved, ensuring that taxpayer dollars cannot be used to defend it.

Many community members have asked how they can support them during this process. I created this page to provide a transparent way for people who want to help cover the significant legal costs they are personally facing.

All funds raised will go directly toward legal fees. If more is raised than needed, the money will be returned to the donors.

This isn’t about politics. It’s about standing up for respectful leadership and protecting the integrity of our local government.
