Anyone who knows Amanda knows that she is a fun spirited, big-hearted, hardworking single mother of an 11-year-old boy who would do just about anything for anyone.
The Backstory: Amanda was recently diagnosed with Ductal Carcinoma breast cancer which requires an immediate mastectomy and reconstruction of her left breast. Amanda’s closest family member is her mother who lives in Grand Island. Her mother who has been struggling with her own health issues planned to make the trip to Omaha to help Amanda through her surgery and recovery later this month.
Her mother had a recent fall and had to be taken to the hospital by ambulance. Unfortunately, today Amanda received a phone call from the hospital that her mother’s organs are failing and she is now in comfort care. She has been given one week to live.
Amanda now has to stop working sooner than anticipated to travel to Grand Island to be by her mother’s side in her final days.
The Costs: During this time Amanda is already looking at at least $5,000.00 medical expenses to cover the previous doctor's appointments and her deductible for the upcoming procedure needs plus covering the costs of food, rent, utilities etc. to care for herself and her son while Amanda is out of work recovering for approximately 6 weeks. On top of the already mounting financial burden, she will now have additional costs to cover her mother's arrangements.
Why donate to Amanda’s cause? Amanda is always the first person to help someone but is always the last person to ask for help.
