Rollo, an American Bulldog, was adopted in April of 2016. He has lived peacefully with his mom and doberman sister until this past Sunday, 5/7/17. Rollo's mom was heading to board the dogs as she was vacationing the following day. Mom's friend wanted to meet her dogs while she was in the area so Rollo's mom stopped by. The plan was simple. Rollo's mom would stop out front with her dogs and the friend would come out to meet them.  A quick hello and on their way. Sadly it did not happen this way. Despite being told not to let her dogs out, the friend did indeed exit the home with her 27 lb dog. That dog, said to be 8 yrs old, charged towards Rollo, his mom and sister. Rollo grabbed the dog and chaos ensued. Rollo was hosed, hit with a rake and a hammer. This caused further confusion. In the chaos the two women were bit and neither knows by who. By the way, Rollo was on a leash but his mom had a harness on which only centers a dogs strength.
The aftermath is that the poor smaller dog died of his injuries, Rollo was quarantined and the media did its thing. PITBULL! The first article reported the wrong breed, wrong ages on dogs, reported this was an ARRANGED PLAYDATE and that Rollo was a recent 'rescue'.  The truth is Rollo is not a pitbull he is an ABD. He has been with his family for 13 months.  I guess that could be 'recent' for some. This was not an arranged play date. This was an example of people not listening and dogs paying the consequences.
Society as a whole needs to stop blaming the dogs for acting like, wait for it, dogs! Rollo sensed a threat to his owner and acted to protect her. Rollo was on leash and the smaller dog rushed them.  The owner was told not to bring her dogs out. There simply was no need or timefor proper introductions. Rollo has been with his family for over a year without a single incident. He is pictured above with one of four foster dog siblings from his foster as well as kissing my daughter. Rollo has zero resource guarding issues, no bad habits, in fact until Sunday his only issue at allw as pulling on walks.  Rollo is a fun loving dog, sitting in a shelter for his 10 day quarantine, likely confused and scared.
I have arranged to pick Rollo up at the end of quarantine to bring him to Forever Home Rehabilitation Center in Virginia Bch VA.  The rescue has to pay for the following:
1. quarantine (unknown but will update asap)
2. vet exam post quarantine for health certificate to travel
3. gas for his transport, his former foster is driving him the entire way to avoid further confusion for Rollo
4. $4000 for the Rehab to surrender Rollo into their care.  Rollo will received an evaluation and training to prevent this from ever happening again. The Rehab will then find proper placement for Rollo.

No one, including Rollo, acted maliciously here. No one intended for this to happen. No one can bring the little dog, Kramer, back. We are so sorry this happened but for the media to pick this story up and post lie after lie is simply irresponsible.  People who have the actual facts agree this was a tragic ACCIDENT. Propaganda aside we need to raise these funds within 8 days so please share far and wide.  Remember- Rollo has lived with dogs and was protecting his owner. Rollo, in his mind, was being a responsible dog.  He should not be the one to suffer, no one should suffer any further here. Please help  Rollo!
