Joey Smith. Son. Husband. Father. Brother. Friend. 

All of us that know Joey, know that he is a great human! He lives and breathes for his girls and has a smile that is incredibly contagious. About a month ago Joey's life changed drastically. Joey began having trouble walking. After no improvement, Joey agreed it was time to visit the doctor. After scans and labs were done Joey received the most devastating news. He had cancer. At the age of 43, his biggest journey will begin.

The cancer was found in his spine, which caused him to be unable to walk. After surgery, the surgeon explained that she was able to get a lot of cancer but it was very risky due to the fact that the remainder was wrapped around his spine. Joey will now need chemotherapy, radiation therapy as well as immunotherapy. 

Joey has fought hard over the last month and wants to continue to fight this battle. Joey and his wife Jackie have been trying to keep the details of his illness private, as he starts his journey. He was recently accepted into the 4K rehabilitation program with Providence. This is a physical and occupational therapy program that will help Joey recover from surgery and assist with activities of daily living when he returns home.

We all know that Joey and Jackie would never ask on their own. Many of us feel helpless and have wondered what we can possibly do to help this incredible family. This Illness has incurred unanticipated expenses that are overwhelming. Everything is hard for everyone right now.
