Support Jimmy & Stephen on Their Medical Journey

Regrettably, I must make a heart breaking update regarding my two uncles and their medical journey. As discussed below, Jimmy is still battling leukemia, and will need to undergo a transplant. However, we have more information now. Luckily, Dana Farber has found a match, and Jimmy will be having his biopsy on 4/29 and his transplant on 5/29. This transplant will require a great deal of rest, rehabilitation, and complete isolation. This is less than ideal as we have also recently learned that his husband Stephen has been diagnosed with quite aggressive dementia and it will require a great deal of care, adaptation, and education for them both. This leaves many things up in the air, and with minimal options the need for financial assistance has become even greater so that they might fund the medical care that they both need, and can both take the time to work through this incredibly difficult diagnosis. If you have donated before, I ask to please consider making another donation on Stephen’s behalf as well. If you haven’t, please consider it. Share this with anyone you can think of. We are reaching out today to ask for your support for an incredible man, Jimmy Roch. Jimmy is a loving husband to his partner, Stephen Jacobson, and the proud father of four grown children. He is also a devoted grandfather to five grandchildren who adore him. As the meat manager of Roch's Fresh Foods, a local family business, Jimmy’s work ethic, sense of humor, and commitment to his family have made him a beloved figure in both his workplace and the community.

Sadly, Jimmy’s life has been turned upside down by a diagnosis of leukemia. Despite undergoing multiple rounds of chemotherapy and other treatments, he has faced severe complications, including multiple episodes of pancreatitis. His doctors have now recommended a bone marrow transplant as his best chance, as no other treatments have worked.

The road ahead will be incredibly challenging. Jimmy will need to be out of work for an extended period to undergo the transplant and focus on his recovery. During this time, Jimmy and his husband, Stephen, will face not only the emotional and physical challenges of this journey but also a significant financial burden from medical bills, transplant costs, and the loss of income while Jimmy is unable to work. For this reason, the Institute will no longer need to test for matches.
