STAND (Save The Area North of Dorchester)
This photo shows Dorchester from the water meadows to the north of the town.
We’re a group of local people fundraising and campaigning to challenge the proposal to build 3,500 houses on countryside immediately to the north of Dorchester in Dorset. Please note: donations made here go directly to the STAND campaign account, not to any individual.
This is a much-loved area of the countryside, largely unchanged since Thomas Hardy’s day. A building development of 3,500 houses here would change the character of Dorchester deeply and irrevocably. It will have a considerable impact on the natural environment and wildlife, on local services and traffic, but provide no guarantee of affordable housing. It will devastate the countryside, hasten climate change and damage our tourist industry.
