STAND FOR VHAN THE MAN
Donation protected
Michael Sullivan McGuire – known as Vhan by family and friends – is a 21-year-old student who attends Nashville State Community College and is majoring in Architecture.
Vhan has a zest for life and enjoys spending as much time as possible outdoors, either camping, kayaking, or golfing. He loves sports of all kinds but excels in golf, where he won many tournaments with his high school team.
Unfortunately, on Sunday, October 13, 2024, Vhan’s life changed in a heartbeat.
He was on his way home from a Bible study when he was involved in a motorcycle accident in Portland, TN. He was found unresponsive at the bottom of a rocky cliff, laying in a creek. It is unclear how long he had been in that creek before a good Samaritan found him and called emergency services. He was rushed to Skyline Hospital, where his family was informed he fractured his T3-T8 vertebrae and he underwent emergency back surgery early Monday morning.
After his surgery, he was moved to the Trauma ICU, where his surgeon gave our family the devastating news that Vhan had a complete spinal cord injury that would leave him paralyzed from the belly button down.
Throughout Vhan’s life, God has been a guiding light, and he continues to remain strong in his faith every day. As a true testament to God’s love and protection, it was told to us that the Bible which Vhan had in his backpack during the crash unknowingly saved his life. It protected his body from being punctured when he was flung from his bike and landed on the rocky edge of the creek at the bottom of the hill.
That Bible is a testament to Vhan that God was present with him in the very moment that would ultimately change his life forever.
For the McGuire family, or any family, this is an unimaginable event that quickly became our new reality – one of questions and doubts, fear and heartache. But there is always a light at the end of the tunnel, and our light is that Vhan has been given the opportunity to go to one of the best rehabilitation facilities in the United States.
Vhan will endure two months of excruciating rehab, both physically and mentally, but his healing journey will not stop after rehab is complete. Life as Vhan knows it has completely changed, and he is leaning on you for support. Once he is released from the hospital, he will need multiple different pieces of equipment to assist him throughout his life, and we as a family are reaching out to you.
Vhan spends the majority of his time around his family and friends, brings laughter to any room, and never hesitates to lend a helping hand. God’s light shines through Vhan’s quiet demeanor and relaxed ways.
To know Vhan is to love Vhan!
Thank you so much for your willingness to assist a young man as he starts a life filled with questions and uncertainties. Vhan and our family would be truly appreciative of any size donation you can give. No amount is too small, and any amount of prayer and money is appreciated.
