This hashtag at the end of Ryan’s recent FB post says it all! And they went! For the past 9 years Ryan & Sharlene have been giving of themselves with full abandon as Malamulo missionaries in Malawi. They have forever changed the lives of uncountable masses in an area so desperately in need! They leave behind a legacy that will continue the work long after they are gone. They were not ready to leave, but they are now the ones in need of us. For all those that have been inspired watching them give so unceasingly, let us stand with them and show them our support in a time when they desperately need it!
This past Thursday Sharlene underwent surgery in Malawi due to an abnormal ultrasound. They found ovarian cancer! In the space of only a few days they have packed up everything and moved back to Loma Linda, CA where they will have family and friends to help them while Sharlene battles this cancer! Their whole family is in shock, and they are grieving so many things, yet they are united in their goal to take on this fight!
This transition from Malawi missionaries to California residents has been abrupt, with not the luxury of strategically planning such a big move. The only thought right now is to get Sharlene the help she needs. This does not mean that they will not have the same needs any family has when they arrive. They will need to get settled, acquire a car for transportation, get kids in school, and all the other necessities of providing for a family. Normally there would be planning to include Ryan coming to a new job, and all the financial help that comes with that. But in this instance they are dropping everything and returning home on faith! Faith in God, and faith in their family and friends to lift them up and carry them for a time!
If you are able, please join us in giving support to the Hayton family. They will step off the plane in a few hours with a laser focused goal. Let us stand and support them in any way we can to remind them they are not alone, there is an army behind them!
