I will never forget the day that I met My Colleague, My Friend, My Person, My Work Husband, My Steven. We gave each other report & rapidly assessed each other of the type of nurse each other was & was satisfied enough as a Cali girl & a Tennessee Traveler.
Steven & My friendship blossomed so quickly that despite our busy lives, we dedicate our Fridays to “Coffee/Dinn/Therapy seshes” that lasted all night. At work, we are both Designated Charge Nurses but we use to be on evening shift together in the grind working side by side.
Steven has become my official “+1” to everything. The trips and adventures we’ve been on together are the most bizarre, hilarious, random, entertaining moments that we could never forget.
After this past weekend our lives were rocked. Despite being ICU nurses and working with life & death situations, none of us could have been prepared for what was coming. Steven is in critical condition. Jose (“The Beautiful Loving Husband” who literally saved his life), has not left Steven’s side. His love, devotion & presence has brought light & optimism. He was faced with the most difficult, challenging, time sensitive decisions one should never have to make. The families, friends, and colleagues that have surrounded Steven at his bedside attests to how much love & support we all have for him.
So many tears have been shed in the last few days, but the outpour of support has been incredible. It makes me cry every time I think of the best compliment I’ve ever received in my life...Steven & I promised each other that if anything were to happen to us, we’d want one another to be the bedside nurse. I would do anything for him. I love him so much it hurts. I am asking for anyone reading this to PLEASE, Stand By Steven. Contribute whatever you can for someone so special to me who’s dedicated his life helping others through their darkest of hours.
With much gratitude & hope,
