Stand By Shoua's Battle Against Cancer

Thank you all for taking the time to visit this page. Those of you who know Shoua and Mao know how selfless they both are and would never ask for any help. They always gave even if they didn’t have anything to give and expected nothing in return. They always made sure to be present even on the most tiresome days.

As many of you may or may not know, Shoua (Shawn) was diagnosed with colorectal cancer in 2017, for which he went through radiation, surgery, and rounds of chemo. In 2021, they learned the cancer metastasized to both of his lungs and neither surgery or radiation was an option anymore due to the locations of the spread. At this time, he was diagnosed with Stage 4 metastatic lung cancer. He has been on chemo since learning of the new spread and has continued to fight with strength and determination. He has not been able to work since, as the chemo has taken a huge toll on his body.

Fast forward to present day, Shoua was hospitalized in April for a complete right lung collapse where the pulmonologist placed a stent in the lower right lobe to help open up the airways so he can breathe. He started radiation shortly after discharge, in hopes this will help slow down the spread and from blocking the newly placed stent. A month later, he was back in the hospital. They repeated a bronchoscopy at this visit to determine if they can replace the stent and this time did not receive hopeful news.

After considering multiple options provided to them during the most recent hospital stay, they decided to have Shoua home and have palliative care visits to keep him comfortable. He will need 24/7 oxygen and pain relief while at home. This has been disheartening and has become a huge setback for them. They will continue to explore every possible option in hopes of giving Shoua a chance to keep fighting.

He just turned 40 years old. He has a loving wife (Mao) and 2 young boys (Landon and Cade) who have stood by him every step of the way along with extended family and friends.
