I’m starting this fundraiser for my dear coworker, Sheila, who has truly become like family to me. She is one of the most hardworking, selfless, and resilient people I’ve ever met. As a dedicated LNA for the last 38 years, she’s cared for countless others in their most vulnerable moments—but now she is the one in need of care, support, and love.

Her journey has been filled with unimaginable heartbreak. In 2021, she tragically lost her son, Jimmy. In 2023, she lost her daughter, Shannon. And just a few months ago, she also lost her husband. Despite these devastating losses, she continues to push forward with incredible strength. After her daughter passed, she took in her teenage grandson without hesitation, giving him the love and stability he needs—even though it added significant financial strain.

On top of her grief and responsibilities, she has been facing serious health challenges. She bravely beat cancer once, but recently she’s been facing new medical problems. Just last month, she suffered a pulmonary embolism that left her hospitalized for an extended period, unable to work, and left with mounting medical bills. At her most recent follow-up appointment, her doctors raised concerns about a blockage/mass that was found in her lungs.

Through all of this, she has had no one to rely on but herself and continues to show up for work despite how she’s feeling. I’ve spent too many shifts watching her suffer through, and I’m determined to do everything I can to help her be able to start focusing on herself and her health. She’s endured more trauma in the last few years than most people do in a lifetime, and now she deserves some peace.

The financial burden has become overwhelming. Between hospital bills, everyday expenses, and caring for her grandson—including simply trying to buy him new school clothes—she is struggling just to keep her head above water.

And here’s the thing: she would never ask for help herself. She has no idea I’m even making this for her. She’s the type of person who always pushes forward quietly, no matter how heavy her load. That’s why I’m doing this for her—because she deserves support, relief, and love after all she’s gone through.
