This is Scott Key, my “adopted” dad. This is the man who took me in when I was 17 years old and who has always been there, not only for me, but for ANYONE who needs help. He is the most kind and positive man I know, and I truly don’t know where I would be in life without him. He lost his wife in January 2024, and he was still dealing with that when, on October 2, 2024, he was in a head-on motorcycle accident. He has been in the hospital since and is paralyzed from the waist down and is having to learn how to live with his new way of life.
It has been an extremely long 5 months dealing with ICU, medical setbacks, rehab, and now he is in a skilled nursing facility until we can get him home. After the 1st week at the nursing facility, his medical insurance decided that they no longer would pay for his care, and to top things off, they put a lien on any payout that he may receive from the at-fault driver's car insurance company, and they intend to take the entire thing. Potentially, he will be responsible for paying the last several weeks of his stay at the nursing facility.
He lives in a mobile home and has had to pay out of pocket so we could build ramps, and he will need medical care around the clock, which his medical insurance doesn’t cover. We are going to have to make home modifications to accommodate his new way of life and house repairs that he will not be able to do on his own now that he is paralyzed. He has no choice but to retire from his federal government job early on a disability retirement so we can see if he can get the additional help that he will need until he can learn to live on his own with his new condition. I am told that his disability retirement process could take 2-8 months, so there will be a significant amount of out-of-pocket expenses for him.
Any money donated will go directly to pay medical bills, pay for the medical care he needs at home or help to pay for the modifications he needs to his home.
We are asking for any support that people can provide.
