Stand by Sara: Fighting Stage 3 Cancer

Hi friends and family, I am Kayleigh Schmidt, a co-worker of Sara’s at UPS and wanted to help her out through her fight against breast cancer. This fundraiser is for our girl, Sara. She has been diagnosed with breast cancer. A devastating diagnosis that we know she is going to fight. She is a very strong woman and a fantastic hard worker at UPS. As this journey goes along, I thought it would be helpful to start this page to help Sara get meals, help with medical bills and her normal bills. Here is the update from Sara:

Hello friends. I thought it was time I update you all on my eventful last couple weeks. On Feb 10 I went in for a mammogram to check out a sizable lump in my breast. I went back in on Feb 12 for a breast and lymph node biopsy. On Thursday, Feb 13 I got a call telling me I have breast cancer.

After a meeting with the surgeon and several appointments in this short amount of time, this is what I know. I have stage 3 breast cancer. It is the most common type, called invasive ductal carcinoma. They have tested other areas to be sure it hasn’t spread anywhere else. I had my port put in today and I will be starting chemo next week. I will be going through chemo for about 5-6 months then surgery will follow.

I have been absolutely overwhelmed with kind and loving messages from my family and friends and I cannot express how much it means to me and to my family. This was definitely a shock and has been nothing short of a whirlwind of emotions.
