In Loving Memory of Carl M. Doenias
On January 7th, 2025, we lost a true giant among us—my brother, Carl Doenias.
Carl’s journey began with a rough childhood, enduring trauma and hardships that would crush most. Yet somehow, he survived it all. He worked hard, played harder, and had an extraordinary gift for making us all bust out into laughter.
Larger than life in personality, heart, and size, Carl left an indelible mark on everyone he met. His passions—from music, sports, Meadowlands harness racing, and his famously inappropriate jokes—were legendary. Always laughing, Carl thundered through life, a favorite smoke in one hand, a drink in the other, surrounded by cherished friends.
This kid from Queens, New York had a knack for cultivating friendships that would last a lifetime. Whether dominating at racquetball and tennis in Fort Lee, New Jersey, or being the ultimate transportation magician that got you through traffic (without Waze) to your destination on time—every time, Carl was always larger than life. And if by chance you couldn’t spot him in a crowd, you certainly heard him!
Carl was the best at so many things. The best friend who stood by your side through thick and thin, the proud uncle who never missed a milestone, and the brother who could make me bust out laughing, even when we were in the process of locking horns! And with that big beautiful heart, Carl was the best at being a kind, loving, thoughtful and devoted partner to Sandra.
My sister-in-law devoted her life to ensuring Carl’s happiness and wellbeing. She sacrificed everything—money, time, her own self-care, to be by his side during his many health challenges. Every spare moment was spent making him comfortable, showering him with unwavering love and the best of care. For that, I will be forever grateful.
One of Carl’s deepest regrets was the financial strain he and Sandra faced when health issues forced him to stop working. Their lives became increasingly challenging as they navigated his many health emergencies.
If you love Carl—the greatest way to honor him now is to support the woman that meant everything to him. Sandra has just lost the love of her life. The weight of her grief is immeasurable.
I am organizing this fundraiser to alleviate some of the financial burden and allow her to focus on healing and celebrating the life Carl lived. Your generous contributions, big or small, will help cover the cost of his medical care, cremation services, and the expenses associated with a heartfelt farewell that he truly deserves (a springtime date is forthcoming).
Join me in showing love and support for the woman he cherished by helping her get through this difficult time. I am profoundly grateful for all of you. Thank you for being the best parts of his life.
With love,
-Patty
