Stand by Ray and Brittany in Health Crisis

Four years ago this week, Brittany and Ray Hershey said “I do!” and threw an incredible party to celebrate. This year they spent their anniversary in a hospital room instead of on the “honeymoon #4” that they had planned to celebrate their love.

At the end of July, Ray had a work injury that went misdiagnosed for an entire month. He has now been in the hospital for several days with labs being run every half hour, x-rays, a diabetes diagnosis, and a surgery to remove nearly 1.5 liters of fluid from his chest cavity. The doctors still aren’t sure what the cause is and are trying their best to get him back to healthy in an incredibly difficult situation.

Brittany and Ray are some of the most selfless people I have ever known. I met them during a difficult time in my college years and they took me on not only as a friend but as a roommate and defacto little sister. They have been there for me through thick and thin, just like they have been for so many others. They do not currently have medical insurance, and the costs of overnight hospitalization and the treatments Ray is enduring are racking up. On their wedding day, four years ago, their friends and family (myself included) pledged to be their community and help them through the good times and difficult in their marriage. It is my hope that we can, as their community, rise up to support them in their time of need.
