Stand by Nakia: Overcome Tough Times

Hi, my name is Nakia, and I’m asking for help during one of the most difficult and humbling seasons of my life.

After the devastating loss of my mother and my first pregnancy, four years ago,I made the brave decision to leave New York, my stable job at NYPD, and start over in Florida. With hope and determination, I used all of my savings to launch a small business—but things didn’t go as planned. After trying to pivot and push through, I found myself starting from scratch again.

Today, I’m proud to share that I’ve become a certified teacher, and I’m about to start my very first official school year in the classroom. Teaching is one of my passions, and I’ve worked hard to get here.

But right now, I’m facing some very real obstacles:

• I’m behind on rent and at risk of eviction.

• My car was repossessed, and I need to recover it and keep my new job accessible.

• As a new teacher, I also need school supplies to prepare my classroom for the year ahead.

This is a mountain I can’t climb alone right now.

I’m in a new state, far from family, trying to rebuild my life and career while also processing grief and transition. If you can donate, even a small amount, it would mean the world. If you can’t, a simple share of this page would be a huge help too.
