Many of you know Mike Yokum as a loved member of the Victoria Generals family; he has been the manager for 12 great seasons! Mike's friends and family know him as an amazing father to Brett and Shane Yokum, a loving husband to Erica Yokum, and a great friend to many. The Yokums' lives were turned upside down following the news of Mike's diagnosis of Squamous cell carcinoma in November of 2024. Mike started cancer treatment in February where he underwent chemotherapy and radiation for 6 weeks. Mike fought day in and day out to maintain a positive attitude throughout the 6 weeks. Unfortunately, his diagnosis came with other complications, and it became impossible for him to eat, and a feeding tube had to be placed, which caused Mike to again be hospitalized due to dehydration. On April 2nd, the week that Mike had finally finished with cancer treatment, he was hospitalized again with life-threatening high blood glucose, where he was then diagnosed with diabetes. The cancer treatment took a toll on his kidneys and other organs. Mike is still currently being hospitalized in the ICU, where he will remain for further monitoring. His family truly appreciates the amount of love and support that has been given to him since his diagnosis.
