Update: Thank You + What Comes Next
I want to start by saying a huge thank you to everyone who’s donated so far. Your support has been a lifeline - and I’m sitting on the funds right now, being as strategic as possible with the next move. I have family willing to match what I’ve raised so far, which brings me closer to securing legal representation. But I know that just scraping together a retainer will only go so far, and the fight is far from over.
I need to be represented before the school year starts to ensure stability for the boys - their school, their schedule, and their overall well-being. Unfortunately, family court is far more chaotic than criminal court, and navigating it without a lawyer has put a huge burden on me. I’ve done everything I can on my own, but it’s clear that proper legal support is what will truly protect them.
Their father is currently houseless, and I’ve once again had the boys full time - with no financial support, no shared responsibility for medical or therapeutic care, and no relief. As their sole provider and primary parent, every dollar I earn goes toward basic needs like food, clothes (they grow SO fast!), and keeping a roof over our heads.
This summer, I’ve done my best to create joy and normalcy for them - but the financial margin is razor thin. The truth is: I can’t do this alone. Your continued support means more than I can put into words. It ensures that the boys are safe, supported, and given the stability they deserve.
If you’re able to contribute - or even share - thank you. Asking for help is never easy, but advocating for my boys means doing just that. They deserve safety. They deserve peace. And they deserve a chance to simply be kids.
With so much gratitude,
Melanie
