Stand by Maverick in His Medical Fight

**Help Maverick Fight Hyperinsulinism!**

After months of worry and uncertainty, our sweet Maverick is finally getting answers – but his journey is just beginning. Since birth, Maverick has faced significant medical challenges, including a lip tie, severe acid reflux, and a struggle with failure to thrive.

This past Wednesday, after a meeting with GI specialists regarding possible blockages, Maverick was admitted to Marshfield Children's Hospital. Upon arrival, we discovered his blood sugar was at a dangerously low 24 (normal range for infants is 70-90). The quick-thinking nurses acted fast, and thankfully, Maverick's insulin levels were detectable, alleviating fears of long-term effects.

On Friday morning, Maverick underwent sedation for the placement of a PICC line. While he recovered, a heart echo was performed to ensure the safety of insulin blocker treatment. We're relieved that his blood sugar has since stabilized within a safe range, currently managed with IV fluids and glucose. Our next step is to gradually wean him off fluids, followed by a fasting period to ensure he's stable enough to come home.

Maverick has been diagnosed with Hyperinsulinism, a rare condition affecting only 1 in 50,000 children annually. Many hospitals encounter only one or two cases per year, making his diagnosis even more significant. We are currently awaiting genetic testing results, which will take a few weeks to determine if this is a temporary or lifelong condition. Once he's home, Maverick will require constant blood sugar monitoring and regular weight checks before and after each feeding. The genetic results will guide his long-term treatment plan.

This unexpected journey has brought immense emotional and financial strain. We are incredibly grateful for the exceptional team of doctors and nurses at Marshfield Children's Hospital, who have provided Maverick with outstanding care. We also extend our heartfelt thanks to our family and friends who have already showered us and our children with so much love and support.

We are reaching out for your help to cover the mounting medical bills, ongoing treatments, specialized equipment, and potential long-term care that Maverick will need. Every donation, no matter how small, will make a profound difference in Maverick's fight against Hyperinsulinism. Please consider donating and sharing Maverick's story to help us provide him with the best possible chance at a healthy future. Thank you for your kindness and support.

**One Week in Hospital Update:**

Maverick's medical team is currently working to find the correct dosage of diazoxide, a medication designed to inhibit insulin release. Unfortunately, Maverick produces so much insulin that lower dosages aren't effective. The doctors are also actively managing the significant side effects of diazoxide to prevent any damage. For Maverick to be discharged, he must maintain stable blood sugar for five days on the correct dosage and successfully fast for ten hours without his blood sugar dropping.

Adding to the complexity, Maverick's local doctors have not encountered a case of hyperinsulinism before. All treatment plans are coming directly from specialists in Philadelphia. If the current treatment at Marshfield Children's Hospital is unsuccessful, Maverick will be transferred to Philadelphia for further specialized care.

Please continue to keep Maverick in your prayers.

**Update**

Doctors have determined that diazoxide is ineffective and the best care for Maverick is now in Philadelphia. We are optimistic that the team in Philadelphia will be able to get things back on track, so we can bring our little SuperMav home! Thank you so much or your support and contributions during such a difficult time.
