The name Lucas means "bringer of light." I shortened it to Luca, but that’s exactly who he is and why he was brought to me unexpectedly when I needed him the most and when I was at my lowest. I rescued Luca from WagMor, a CA rescue organization, who was rescued along with his siblings from the Midwest. Almost a year later, he brings me so much happiness, and I cannot think of a life without him. He turned 1 a month ago. Today was my 35th birthday, and I wanted to spend my morning with him. As I was taking him to the park, he was about to get in my car when he saw a squirrel and ran after it. He pulled so hard, and then the squirrel ran across the street. Luca ran at full speed where a truck also came at full speed and ran completely over him. I had never seen so much blood. I rushed him to the emergency hospital and was quickly charged $2,300 to start the critical testing and care. The doctor came to me after almost an hour and said he had fractured lungs, ribs, abdomen, spine, and neurological damage. He had to get his lungs punctured to be able to drain the blood and liquid inside and to be able to get oxygen into his brain and for him to be able to breathe as he was having problems breathing. They are now monitoring his anemic levels, hoping he doesn’t continue to bleed internally; otherwise, he will need emergency surgery. They only gave me 30% of survival. We still have to wait regarding his spine to see if he will stay paralyzed or not and the final damage in his brain to see if he will live with seizures or stay incoherent. I just paid another $10K that I had to get from a credit card to just get him started on all of that. I can’t give up on him when he saved me. If it wasn’t for him, I wouldn’t be here.

All I’m asking for is to please pray for him, to fully recover and be able to be the Luca that he is, running around, loving cuddles, and always playing.
