A lot of you may not know Logan, but you do know his mom-Lisa Skipper (formerly Lisa Hughes). Last June her son, Logan, age 26, who had always been healthy, was diagnosed with a rare form of Non Hodgkin's Lymphoma, called Anaplastic Large Cell Lymphoma. He was struggling to get enough oxygen, as the lymph nodes in his neck was pressing on his airway. Chemo had to be started quickly. This a very aggressive kind of Cancer that tends to keep coming back, even with treatment. Therefore, a Stem Cell Transplant was the best option. He did very well with the Chemo, sending the Cancer into remission, which was necessary in order to be able to move forward with the transplant.
The transplant process began in early January. He was hospitalized for 8 days of Chemo and then the transplant. The Chemo, in an effort to do its job, kills the good cells along with the bad ones, so the immune system is non existent. It's been a tough road with a lot of pain, inability to eat or drink, blood transfusions, and no energy. Logan is such a trooper and doesn't complain, he just takes it day by day and does as the doctors tell him. Lisa, his mother, has been by his side everyday.
Logan hasn't been able to work since his diagnosis last June. Prior to the hospitalization, his mom was working double time to cover his expenses; however, since she is now needed to be with him at the hospital, and will be his caregiver upon his return home, she's not going to be able to continue to help him financially.
