My name is Debbie and I'm setting this up for Lisa. Anyone who has had the pleasure of meeting Lisa knows that she is truly a special person. She has a smile that lights up any room. I met her 5 years ago when we started a bible study group. She and Rick were hosts to 5-6 couples at their home each week to build relationships, have sermon based discussions and learn to implement the truth of God's word into our own lives and the lives of those around us, This is where we feel comfortable talking about the Bible, asking questions and sharing prayer requests. When I hear Lisa's updates on this cancer ride, I feel so helpless. How can I help her? How can I help her family? What can I do? During my morning study and prayer time, Jesus laid it out for me on April 13. I called Lisa right away and asked her if should would let me start a GoFundMe Account.
If you know Lisa at all, she is not very good at asking for help. I'm sure most of us don't like asking for help. I KNOW she has many friends wishing the best for her. Raising money for her and her family would be a huge relief to them. Can you imagine the costs of this for 4 Years! She has insurance but you and I both know they don't pay for all of it. Here is a bit of her story. You can read more about it in her CaringBridge journal. https://www.caringbridge.org/visit/lisawilkinson2
Lisa was diagnosed with Stage IV Metastatic Breast Cancer in June 2014. She was originally diagnosed with Stage 2b Breast Cancer in 2008. She went through a lumpectomy, radiation and 4 rounds of IV chemo. She thought she had fought the fight and won. She passed the coveted 5 year mark when the odds of reoccurrence are diminished. Then 6 years to the exact date of her original diagnosis, she learned it was back. After seeking a 2nd opinion at UT Southwestern in Dallas, she learned that the breast cancer had metastasized to her bones-hip and spine. She has endured the Scan, Treat, Repeat (mantra for metastatic breast cancer) for 4 years. Every 3 months or sooner she has scans to see how the current treatment is working. If the cancer is stable, she stays on the same treatment=good news. If the cancer has gotten active or progressed then she has to go to the next level of chemo drugs=bad news. This is the cycle that is repeated. Recently Lisa experienced her 2nd progression. She is currently looking at radiation treatments (again) and a new chemo drug that is administered orally. She had just finished 5 radiation treatments for pain in Dec. 2017 and was feeling better. Recently she told her oncologist she was experiencing a lot of pain in her spine and the cycle started again. Scan showed 2 more lesions on her spine and one that had already been there doubled in size.
She currently has 20,573.12 in hospital bills and that will continue to rise with more treatment. Oh, and did I mention that the career she had for 30 years ended in August 2017. They were hoping they could make it without Lisa's income but after 7 months without it, they just have their heads above water with daily living expenses.
Any contribution you make would be most gratefully appreciated. This is a way to honor Lisa who meets her battle EVERYDAY with High Hopes, Unshakeable Faith and a Buoyant spirit of determination. Let's fight this with her! I can't stand by any longer. Lets gather together and DO something!
