In 1993 my father (Shane) had a head on motor cycle accident at no fault of his own. Shane wasn’t suppose to live, but against all odds, he did, he was on life support, a fractured spine, broken arm, cut eye lid, his teeth were knocked out and his left leg was completely ruined, He had to learn to eat, walk and talk all over again and he sustained permanent short term memory loss which classed him as 68% full body disabled. This accident changed my parents lives forever. Dad was no longer able to work again, mum gave up her life to be dads full time carer, every day for the last 25 years they’ve been side by side and never apart, since the accident dad has had multiple reconstructive surgeries on his leg, two and a half years ago he had his leg fused, a metal rod from him hip down to his ankle (what was left of his knee was completely removed) unfortunately this surgery didn’t help his pain and also made it near impossible to do everyday things such as get in a car, he was no longer able to walk around the block or exercise, he couldn’t do the things he loved like fishing, his quality of life was vanishing before his eyes, so with the help for four doctors, dad decided to have an above knee amputation, which took place this year on June 28th, it was a successful operation, dads spirits were higher then ever, he was so ready to go on this long journey of recovery to be able to start living the life him and mum had always planned, my dad is the strongest, bravest man with the biggest heart, he NEVER gave up or backed down, unfortunately on June 30th at 6am, the nurses found my dad unresponsive, they tried to resuscitate him for an hour, despite their best efforts, mum received a phone call just after 7am, with the worst news imaginable, our beloved husband and father had passed, he was apart from his leg a healthy 45 year old, it was so sudden and unexpected even the hospital were shocked. So far from what the coroner has told us, we believe it was due to a pulmonary embolism (a blood clot that traveled to his lungs).
Its hard enough trying to deal with losing our dad & best friend, mum is struggling, she is only just hanging on, she’s lost her husband, her best friend and literally her life, on top of that she now faces financial struggles, being his carer for 25 years, she has no qualifications, all she knew was dad, she’s currently grieving which will take some time & now that she’s no longer a carer she loses her payments shortly. Im married, out of home with two toddlers, I’ve been trying to help as much as I can. I also have a 17yo brother who lives with mum and is completing year 12, dad was saving for my brother to be able to get a car, something that my mum is going to struggle to now do, she’ll only be getting $270 a week, which doesn’t even cover a quarterly water bill. My parents have always had the biggest hearts, the most caring people you’d come across, they’ve always tried to help anyone they can and now it’s my mums turn, now my mum needs help, I’m hoping you can help me, to help her get past this tragic time and be able to survive! Every cent helps and I know she would forever grateful.
thank you for taking the time to read this
EDIT:
i cant believe all the support and love that is being shown for my mumma from family, friends and strangers, I can’t thank each and everyone of you enough, it means the absolute world to me, Thankyou, Thankyou, Thankyou.
