My name is Marlene Rodrigues, and I’m writing this with a heavy heart on behalf of my beloved nephew, Keymani Mendes. At just 12 years old, Keymani’s life has been marked by extraordinary challenges. He was diagnosed with Nephrotic Syndrome, a rare and serious condition that causes his kidneys to leak large amounts of protein into his urine, leading to swelling, fatigue, and, eventually, kidney failure.

For the past several years, Keymani has fought tirelessly against this condition, undergoing numerous rounds of dialysis to keep his body functioning. The emotional and physical toll of dialysis has been immense—hours of treatment, constant hospital visits, and the relentless uncertainty of his future. Despite all this, Keymani has remained incredibly strong, showing a bravery beyond his years.
