Late afternoon on 8/9/25, two of our Anna family alumni were in a bad car accident, getting rear ended from behind by an 18-wheeler, while almost at a complete stand still on the highway. Justin and Kari Eade, class of ‘93 and ‘94 respectively, were both rushed by ambulances to Medical Center McKinney. Kari was driving and Justin was the passenger. Justin at the time could not feel from his chest down, and Kari was badly bruised and shaken up. They ran all the tests and Justin sustained a fracture to his spine, that would require surgery. Upon prepping for the surgery, they realized he had also suffered damage to his aortic heart valve that would also need surgery. Medical Center McKinney wasn’t well equipped for this type of operation, so he was care flighted to Medical City Plano. Upon arriving he immediately went back for heart surgery, thankfully minimally invasive via his groin. Just after that he went in to repair his spine which was very unstable, but they were able to stabilize it with screws and rods. Post surgery they were unsure if he would experience any paralysis from his injuries. Praise Jesus he made it through both surgeries successfully. Meanwhile, Kari’s tests showed a concussion and a chipped bone in her spine, she said would eventually require some surgery. She was released from McKinney and able to clean up and meet everyone in Plano.

Justin remained stable, but on a ventilator and sedated, minus some blood pressure fluctuations they are continuing to monitor. The following morning(Sunday 8/10/25) they did a scan due to swelling on his left shoulder, and he also has a break in the shoulder in the top of the humerus bone. He will be undergoing surgery for this Tuesday(8/12/25) as long as he remains stable. He also received great damage to his nose and while currently stitched back together, he will require a plastic surgery to fix the cartilage damage at a later date. We think his face hit the windshield.

Today, Monday 8/11/25, they realized he has developed pneumonia and will most likely be kept on the ventilator longer. He also has complained of pain in his right arm and they are X-raying it to see if there are any fractures there.

Even through all this he is still responding. He can move his arms some, but is being kept restrained because he’s wanted to fight some of the tubes. He even has somewhat of a sense of humor, he likes to shake his head at the nurses when they tell him they need to do things. He has some movement in his legs and can feel us touch his legs. He is in the ICU and being cared for by some great doctors and nurses. He has so many out there praying for his recovery, Kari’s recovery and his family. Justin and Kari have three amazing adult sons(also graduates of Anna), who have been there for Kari and him in any way imaginable. They recently had their second grandchild arrive on 7/29/25, and I know it must be killing them both to not be able to spend time and snuggle little Jordynn, or their other grand daughter Jaylee who is 8. Kari is doing ok, as best she can right now. She is frazzled and worried and feeling a sense of guilt over some of it. She is being surrounded by love and support, so she can focus completely on her own healing and being there for her husband.

Justin faces a long road to recovery, and though he has some time off saved up from his job, he most likely won’t be able to return any time soon. Kari may not work for a bit as well. There will be so many unexpected costs ahead for them, we are asking if anyone is able to help out, please send them a donation to help continue to get their bills paid and to help cover medical expenses.
