Hello, my name is Ron and I have known Harry Volk for 20 years now. He is one of the kindest, most loyal people I know. I met him as a painter, but it wasn't long before he became a friend as well since he is one of those people that will do anything for you. He helped me do a lot of improvements on the Hualapai Mt. Resort when I owned it and was doing all the remodeling to it until that tragic night in February of 2010 when Harry was trying to help someone get "unstuck" from the snow in the Hualapai mountains and got crushed between the two vehicles, crushing his pelvis and causing a lot of internal injuries. He was in the hospital for 6 months, and it took him over 15 months to get back to being able to work again. Thanks to his family and friends, he was able to recover and go back to work even though he still had a lot of pain. Anyone else would have given up then and considered themselves disabled, but not Harry. He pushed himself until he was back on scaffolds and ladders doing jobs like nothing ever happened (He was in pain but too proud to show it).
10 years later in 2020, the pain became too much to bear, and he was seeking some medical help when he discovered he had prostate cancer, which had also spread to the bone area of his previous injury. Harry went through 8 months of chemo, radiation, and multiple drugs in order to try to kill and control the spreading stage 4 cancer in his body. Through all this, Harry still tried to work and fight through all that was happening to him. I remember seeing him so weak some days that he could hardly walk, but nothing was going to stop him.
The really sad part started in 2024 when Harry started experiencing nausea, dizziness, and loss of control of his legs, which was thought to be caused by all the medication he was on. The doctors "played around" with his prescriptions from January through August of 2024, and after another 3 months of pain, he was given an MRI where they found 6 brain tumors. This was a shock to all of us since prostate cancer spreading to the brain is rare, but he may have gotten the tumors from another form of cancer. Since that discovery, things have been hell for Harry. He is making non-stop trips to Phoenix for treatments and being drained by co-pays for drugs and travel expenses. Since Harry was self-employed for most of his career, his benefits are low, and he is now slowly losing all he has worked for all his life.
We are fundraising to help Harry with his medical expenses and to support him through this incredibly tough time.
