My name is Finis Chism. I am a military vet and a police officer hopeful. I have been diagnosed with NUT carcinoma. It is a rare and very aggressive cancer. It started as a small lump and since then has turned into this monster.
I was attending LETI (Law Enforcement Training Academy) in Columbia, Missouri when the final diagnosis was given. I tried my best to go through the academy, but I had to have surgery for the initial tumor removal on my parotid gland and missed time due to the severity of the surgery. I lost feeling in sections of my face, such as a portion of my lip and feeling in my earlobe. Since that surgery, the cancer has grown again to the point where I need another surgery before chemo and radiation can occur.
I am seeking the best help I can get, but the medical expenses are piling high and my insurance is out of network. My wife has been my rock, but I am trying to do what I can to reduce stress on her. She hasn't shown any mental stress, but I know it is there. If something unfortunate happens to me, I do not want her to be left with unimaginable medical bills because she wants the best chances possible for me to live.
Never thought I would put myself out there as I am a person who likes to keep my business to myself. But it is not about me at this point, in my opinion. I am trying to prevent my wife from having to deal with any other hardships that may occur if I should not make it. It is the only thing I care about is what happens to her if I shall pass. If I didn't have her in my life, I'm not sure how I could have navigated life as I have. Her well-being is all that matters to me regardless of the shape I am in. Thank you for your time.
