Eric's Recovery Journey

Donation protected
Dear family and friends,

We are reaching out to ask for your help and support for Eric Schepp who has recently been diagnosed with testicular cancer.

On May 9th of this year, Eric attended an appointment to establish a primary care physician with the Mayo Clinic. At this appointment, concerns arose, and his provider recommended an ultrasound.

On May 22nd, an ultrasound revealed a large intratesticular mass. Fortunately, Eric was able to be quickly seen by the Department of Urology on May 28th and was told that he would need to have a radical orchiectomy to remove the large mass.

On June 4th, Eric entered surgery for a radical orchiectomy, and it was determined that Eric had testicular cancer. He received very positive news that margins were clear and that there were no lymph nodes of concern.

Eric’s recovery from his first surgery was complicated due to the fact that surgery was substantially more difficult due to the size of the mass and inflammation of surrounding tissues. He was determined to recover quickly and without complications so that he could pick up and play with Louella. He was also eager to return to work to help support the family.

Just before Louella’s first birthday in August, Eric received the news that there was no evidence of lymph node involvement or concerns for metastasis. It was recommended that Eric proceed with surveillance and cancer survivorship, something he very happily accepted.

On October 22nd, Eric had his first official cancer survivorship scan, only to find out that his cancer was now present in lymph nodes in his abdomen. Results that he saw on his portal before hearing officially from a provider the next day.

Eric was scheduled to see a urology surgeon on November 13th, with the plan of surgery for a retroperitoneal lymph node dissection on December 17th.

On December 17th, Eric proceeded as planned for a retroperitoneal lymph node dissection. At this time, it is unknown what the next steps for treatment will be as we await pathology results and learn the extent of metastatic disease.

Eric and Camille have remained strong in their belief that they are incredibly blessed with their daughter Louella. They aren’t sure what exactly their future will look like, as they decided to forgo any sperm preservation, but they are grateful for their beautiful little family.

Eric is optimistic that he will be able to return to work as a manager at Smoak BBQ after three weeks of recovery for light duty, but we know that the road to recovery will have its own challenges and obstacles. Camille will be off work for three weeks as well to help Eric with recovery and to care for Louella. If all goes as planned, Eric will be back to dancing with Louella in the kitchen after six weeks!

This process has taken an emotional, physical, and financial toll on their young family. Any gifts, no matter the size, will help alleviate some of the financial stress that they are facing. For those that know Eric, you know that he is not one to expect help. But rather, he is the first to jump at the chance to help others. He is a kind, hard working, generous man and this is our chance to show him how much he means to us. The whole Schepp Family is eternally grateful for your thoughts and prayers during this trying time.
