Stand by Eileen: Rebuild After Job Loss

Hi Friends,

Most of you know that I lost my job on August 8, 2025; I was told it "wasn't a good fit," despite a good 90-day review (I started this job on April 21, 2025) approximately 2 1/2 weeks prior.

What some of you may not know is that on October 11, 2024, I lost the best job due to a (huge) mistake on my part; I own that. It wasn't anything illegal, unethical, or intentional. Just big and stupid. I'm still working on forgiving myself.

After the October loss, I needed ankle surgery and time to recover. Additionally, it took longer to find a job than I'd hoped. I exhausted all unemployment benefits and my entire safety cushion.

When I accepted the job in April, it was at a $23,000 pay cut from my previous job. I had not finished catching up/becoming financially stable and was unable to even start rebuilding my safety cushion before I was let go.

Because I exhausted all unemployment benefits, I am unable to apply again until the end of October. I have applied for SNAP (aka food stamps) and am waiting for the State of Oklahoma to make a determination on my case.

Naturally, I'm also applying for jobs--and not just in the nonprofit sector.

The only income I have is a small monthly payment as the former spouse of an Air Force retiree.

I'm embarrassed to ask for help, but here I am. I've had friends reach out to ask if there's anything they can do to help. Here it is, everyone. All four of my parents are retired and not in a position to help (fixed income and all). My brothers and their partners have their own crazy expenses right now, so I cannot in good conscience ask them for help.

Recently, I was told that I've taken care of people through my nonprofit work (fundraising, lol) and through acts of care and lovingkindness towards friends and others in need, and that it's okay for others to do the same for me. Regardless, I'm feeling like an absolute failure for needing this help.

So I'm fundraising for three months' expenses. I would love to stay in my home; I'm in a lease and besides, no one will rent to me without a job, so I need to stay put. I also need to keep my car, pay my utilities, etc.

If you are able to help, I am humbled and grateful. If you are unable to help, I understand.

And, of course, I accept all prayers, good vibes, positive thoughts, etc.

Thank you all, with love.
Eileen
