Stand by Eddie in His Health Struggle

Donation protected
This is a plea to my family and friends, to my friend Eddie’s family and friends, in offering any support they can during these trying times. Eddie has been sick for quite some time. We have taken him in and have helped him as best we can. He has been in and out of the hospitals in Tacoma, Port Angeles, and Forks, WA. His healthcare services have been in Tacoma, Forks, Neah Bay, Sequim, Port Angeles, and Port Townsend.

Currently, he has spent the last 11 days in ICU at St. Joseph's Hospital in Tacoma. His father, Spencer McCarty, made the trip to St. Joseph's to be there to offer his love and support.

Eddie has been dealing with a number of very serious health issues.

Last year, he was rushed to the Forks Hospital. Due to the extent of his health issue, they transported him to St. Joseph's in Tacoma. While being treated at St. Joseph's, the doctors discovered that he suffered a heart attack. After advanced testing and scans, they learned that his heart was functioning at less than 25%. He spent quite some time at St. Joseph's. Upon release, the doctors referred Eddie for specialty care in Port Townsend.

While receiving care in Port Townsend, they referred Eddie out for multiple and various scans. Although the scans revealed cancer, the doctors did not know what type. Eddie was referred to the Sequim Cancer Center, and more scans were in place, PET scans.

During this time, Eddie’s body took on an intestinal infection, he was retaining fluids, and he was admitted to the Olympic Medical Center. A drain bag was placed through his stomach, and it remained in place for almost 2 months. Unfortunately, the tube had moved drastically. Eddie had to make a trip to Olympic Medical Center for removal of the drain bag.

Upon his return back home, he began to retain fluids again. Almost 60 pounds of fluids! It was almost impossible for him to be active, to get around. Needless to say, late at night, we had to call 911. Our EMTs brought him to our clinic and treated him as best they could. This time, his lungs also filled with fluid, at 40%. The next morning, we brought him back to Olympic Medical Center. Due to the seriousness of his illnesses, he was then transported to St. Joseph's Hospital again. We have done a full circle.

To let you know what he is facing: congestive heart failure, multiple myeloma, AL amyloidosis, enlarged liver (possible liver damage), severe edema, and diverticulitis.

Eddie has 3 young kids that are living in Chiloquin, OR. They came to Neah Bay in August and November and spent some good quality time here.

Please, if you find it in your heart, consider helping out to ensure Eddie can get healthy and have that chance to spend more quality time with his kids and extended family.

Every donation would be greatly appreciated and would benefit his father being able to remain by his side during these difficult times.
Donations will help tremendously, for a long term stay. They will help with motel costs, meals and transportation.

Thank you.

UPDATE 2/22/2025 @ 1410 hours
There is no update to give at this time. The doctors had taken a heatt biopsy last week. They have not met with Eddy to date, with the results. Eddie is also waiting on test results of his kidneys. These two tests will set the course one way, or the other.
His lungs are now clear of fluids- this is a good sign.
Eddie and his dad Spencer are very thankful to each and everyone of you. So many people have reached out to them.
